How Watamu Restaurants Can Turn Social Media Followers Into Reservations
Thousands of likes and still empty tables on a Tuesday? This is the exact funnel I built for Chef Joshua — and how you can replicate it.
High engagement and empty tables is the most common complaint I hear from restaurant owners in Watamu. The content is working — people are watching, liking, saving. What's missing is the bridge between 'I like this post' and 'I have a table booked for Friday.' That bridge is a funnel, and it's simpler to build than most owners assume.
The funnel, step by step
- Every post ends with a specific next step — not just a caption, but a direct instruction: 'Tap the link in bio to reserve your table.'
- The bio link goes straight to WhatsApp with a pre-filled message, not to a generic website homepage that requires three more clicks.
- An automated WhatsApp greeting confirms receipt immediately and asks for party size and preferred time — no one waits hours for a reply.
- A simple follow-up message goes out to anyone who enquired but didn't confirm within 24 hours.
- Slow nights get their own specific content — a Tuesday-only offer promoted only to people who've engaged with recent posts.
Why most restaurants get stuck
The gap is almost always at step two and three — the handoff from social media to an actual conversation. Owners either don't have a WhatsApp business setup at all, or they have one but no one is monitoring it consistently. Fixing just those two steps, without touching the content strategy at all, is usually enough to convert existing engagement into new reservations within a few weeks.
